California Senate Passes One-Gun-A-Month Measure

posted on June 1, 2017

That chiseling sound you hear is the continual chipping away of your right to bear arms in California. A ban here, a restriction there, a limit everywhere. Liberal politicians in the Golden State seemingly won’t stop until the Second Amendment is essentially abolished.

The latest measure calls for extending the one-gun-a-month handgun limit to long guns as well—meaning that law-abiding residents could purchase only one rifle in a 30-day period. The California Senate signed off on this limit, and it now heads to the Assembly for consideration.

The legislation was promoted under the guise of reducing straw purchases and, as bill sponsor Sen. Anthony Portantino was reported as saying in the Los Angeles Times, because “there is no need or reason” for you to exercise your constitutional rights. But many Republicans flat-out rejected the gun-purchase restriction.

“This is yet another example of the government trying to infringe on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens,” Sen. Jeff Stone declared during the floor debate. “It’s more of the same that will not decrease violent crime,” concurred Sen. Jim Nielsen.
