A collection of quotes from this week’s Tower of 2A Babble.

“A state lauded for its lack of gun restrictions also has an ugly and often lethal history with domestic violence involving firearms.” — Subhead on a story on Michael Bloomberg’s anti-“gun news” service, The Trace. Ironically, the story went on to document only two domestic violence murders with firearms in Vermont the year discussed—not exactly what one would think when seeing the term “ugly and often lethal” in the subhead.

“I’d probably just fix some of the gun laws. In Canada, we don’t really have any guns and there’s no gun violence, so that really solves it. I mean, they think that it’s for protection and stuff, but it always ends up in some bozo’s hand.” — Pop star Justin Bieber on what he’d do first if he were president of the United States.

“I know that the only way to combat gun violence is by standing up to the NRA and implementing comprehensive gun safety laws.” — Democrat presidential hopeful Martin O’Malley, slamming Donald Trump in a fundraising email to supporters in an attempt to prove he’s more anti-gun than rival Hillary Clinton.

“I don’t want guns in my classroom. I’m dead-set against it because anybody who can carry a gun legally on campus can snap at any time.” — University of Texas-El Paso journalism professor David Smith-Soto, vowing to break the state’s new campus carry law by not allowing guns in his classroom when the law takes effect next year.

“No taxpayer in America should have to foot the bill for a profit-focused lobby looking to improve its public image.” — Statement by the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence concerning a federal grant to the National Shooting Sports Foundation for gun locks and safety training, proving the group cares only about gun bans, not gun safety.

“… gun manufacturers who basically have one policy. And that’s sell as many weapons to whoever you can, whenever you can, wherever you can, in whatever frequency you can.” — U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., in a nonsensical, misleading rant about background checks, feigning ignorance of the fact that all new guns are already sold with background checks.
