Chicago Senior Citizen Shoots Home Invader In Self-Defense

posted on October 10, 2017

Just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, a man with a crowbar forced his way into a home in the Chicago suburb of Bronzeville. Unfortunately for the would-be burglar, the homeowner had a valid FOID card, a concealed-carry permit—and a gun.

Chicago police told WLS-TV that a 44-year-old man was shot multiple times by the 60-year-old homeowner as he was trying to break into a suburban home. After the shooting, the suspect escaped in a vehicle and drove straight to a nearby medical center, where he remains in critical condition. Officers say charges will be filed in the attempted robbery once the suspect is able to leave the hospital.

Over the weekend, 34 people were shot in Chicago, five of whom died.
