Chicago Violence Continues, NYT Jumps Into Fray

posted on June 7, 2016

Chicago’s deadly year—which included another 39 wounded, seven fatally, this past weekend—has garnered interest from The New York Times. The publication is promising to follow the violence throughout the year and began with an article titled, “A Weekend in Chicago: Where Gunfire is a Terrifying Norm.”

Should one glance only at the title, you might assume that citizens are dodging bullets at the same rate that they’re hailing taxis—putting their lives in peril every time they step onto the streets. Only deep into the piece does it reveal that most shootings are gang-related and occur in predominantly poor neighborhoods.

This NYT effort is less an effort about dissecting a problem and finding a solution than it is about promoting an anti-gun agenda. Sample quote: “I hate the person that invented guns.”

Note to the NYT: If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.
