Dem Senators React To Potential Obama SCOTUS Nomination … With Silence

posted on February 20, 2016

Four red state Democrat U.S. Senators are declining to comment on whether they would support President Barack Obama as a potential nominee for Antonin Scalia’s vacant United States Supreme Court seat.

The Daily Signal is reporting the four—Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind.; Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.; Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.; and Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont.realize they will have a rocky road to re-election in 2018 by supporting a nominee who may help reverse critical Second Amendment cases, including District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago.

Recently, Obama claimed America is experiencing a “gun violence epidemic,” while also announcing new executive actions to combat this perceived threat. To that end, an Obama justice on the high court could overwhelmingly shift the ideology of a bench currently evenly divided after the death of Justice Scalia.
