Democrats Hold Spending Bill Votes Hostage

posted on December 12, 2015

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.; Rep. Steve Israel, D-N.Y.; and the Democratic party are attempting to stonewall the party’s support for a year-end spending bill by demanding that a 17-year-old provision banning “gun violence” research be eliminated. Republican leaders will almost certainly reject this demand.

NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox, in an editorial earlier this week, explained why the NRA lobbied for the ban originally and why they continue to support it. “Government-funded research was openly biased in the 1990s. CDC officials unabashedly supported gun bans and poured millions of dollars into ‘research’ that was, in fact, advocacy.” The spin was so egregious, Cox noted, that Congress acted and forbade the use of taxpayer funds for such biased, agenda-driven research.

As for the renewed call for research funding, “It’s not objective data gun-control advocates seek,” Cox says. “They have a pre-determined outcome.”

Reduce Crime, Not Rights

Jurisdictions that embrace the progressive soft-on-crime philosophy that was popularized after a handful of high-profile police-suspect interactions are fueling rising crime rates. American freedom is not to blame for this.
