DHS Chief Says Gun Control “Part And Parcel” Of Homeland Security, But Screening Immigrants’ Social Media Is Not

posted on June 15, 2016

The cabinet secretary ultimately responsible for the safety of the nation told “CBS This Morning” that “gun control is now part and parcel of homeland security.” However, that same bureaucrat refused to screen the social media accounts of foreign applicants for visas to the U.S.

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said Tuesday, “… we have to face the fact that meaningful, responsible gun control has to be part of homeland security as well …” Echoing President Barack Obama’s talking points, he said, “We need to do something to minimize the opportunities for terrorists to get a gun in this country.”

Yet in December 2014, facing criticism in the wake of the San Bernardino terror attack, Johnson admitted to a secret U.S. policy that prohibited immigration officials from reviewing the social media messages of foreign citizens applying for U.S. visas. Stunningly, Johnson refused to end the policy, fearing “bad public relations.”
