Ex-Anchor’s Husband Kills Robber At Motel

posted on July 3, 2015

CNN television personalities aren’t usually known for their affinity for firearms, but former anchor Lynne Russell is an exception: She and her husband, Chuck de Caro, are both concealed-carry permit holders. A would-be robber in Albuquerque, N.M., found that out the hard way when he tried to take advantage of the vacationing couple.

De Caro was reportedly emerging from the shower when a man produced a gun and pushed Russell into their motel room. After an initial exchange of words—during which Russell apparently slipped her husband a gun in her purse—the suspect opened fire. De Caro shot back, fatally injuring the assailant; de Caro was also shot, but not badly injured. While de Caro’s law-enforcement background might be a factor, it’s nice to see a media figure who understands the real value of self-defense.
