Expanded Massachusetts Ban Is “Solution In Search Of A Problem”

posted on July 23, 2016

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey on Wednesday unilaterally expanded the state’s ban on many semi-automatic rifles, called “assault weapons” by gun-ban advocates, by “reinterpreting” the law. Now a report from FOX News indicates the expansion of the ban to a new class of rifles is just another “solution in search of a problem.”

As FOX pointed out, the latest FBI Uniform Crime Statistics show that not even a single murder was committed in Massachusetts in 2014 using a rifle of any sort—much less an AR-15 type rifle. Yet Healey insists, “We have a moral and legal responsibility to ensure that combat-style weapons are off our streets and out of the hands of those who would use them to kill innocent people.”

Interestingly, Healey’s “reinterpretation” resulted in a sales boom, with 2,549 of the rifles being sold to Massachusetts residents on Wednesday. In comparison, 132 were sold on Tuesday, and only 51 on Monday.
