Florida Lawmakers Seek To Lift Campus Carry Ban

posted on September 8, 2015

Although legislation ending Florida’s ban on the Right to Carry on college campuses was stalled by a senate committee chairman who refused to hear it this year, its Senate and House sponsors—Sen. Greg Evers, R-Baker, and Rep. Greg Steube, R-Sarasota—have refiled the bill for consideration when the statehouse re-convenes in January, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Florida led the nation’s Right to Carry revolution when it restored that freedom in 1987. Since then, dozens of states have restored the Right to Carry, and 1.4 million Florida residents over age 21 have obtained permits to do so. However, Florida law still bans the Right to Carry on college and university campuses.

As former NRA President Marion Hammer points out, women shouldn’t be forced to surrender their right to defend themselves simply because they want an education.
