Further Perpetuating The “Trump Slump” Lie

posted on June 30, 2017

In what seems to be a daily occurrence, despite record gun sales in May another media outlet is ignoring the good news and reporting doom and gloom.

The Thursday headline at thenation.com read, “Gun Sales Are Plummeting and Trump Wants to Help.” Within the feature story, author George Zornick wrote: “The gun industry has been experiencing a dramatic decline in sales—which have declined 10 percent in the six months since Trump was elected compared with the same period last year …”

While gun sales are down slightly from last year—when the most guns were sold since records were kept—Zornick completely ignores the fact that the very latest data show that May 2017 was a record month for FBI background checks. The 1.94 million background checks in May were the most ever for that month, showing an upward tick that the media just can’t seem to report.
