Hillary’s Litmus Test For Her Supreme Court Justices

posted on May 18, 2015

In a private meeting with fundraisers, Hillary Clinton said she will only nominate justices for the U.S. Supreme Court who pledge to overturn the court’s 2010 Citizens United decision, which criminalized broadcast speech that advocated for candidates within arbitrary timeframes before elections.

In a case that overturned law barring the showing of a movie critical of Clinton, the justices specifically identified the National Rifle Association, along with the Sierra Club and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), as the targets of these campaign finance laws. Proponents had claimed that corporate money was “buying” elections, and severe constraints on associations like the NRA were necessary to restore fairness. However, in reality, billionaire donors and massive media conglomerates wanted the political playing field to themselves, and “campaign finance reform” enforced their monopolies with criminal sanctions.

Hillary’s justices would subject NRA members to her own form of justice.
