A wave of burglaries and break-ins might have been solved by three well-placed shots from the gun of a homeowner in Ohio.

The Troy Daily News reports that a couple heard strange noises inside their home around 5 a.m. Monday morning. While the woman called 911, the husband investigated and came face to face with an intruder in the garage who had slipped in through the “doggie” door. Miami County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Eric Lachey said, “The homeowner had a gun and was confronted by the burglar and shot him.”

The suspect was hit two times in the leg and once in the hand, and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery for a shattered femur. Lachey told reporters this is the second time in just a few months the home had been burglarized. Investigators believe it may be connected to several reports of suspicious activity in the neighborhood.
