Iowa Suppressor Bill Signed Into Law

posted on April 2, 2016

Republican Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad on Thursday signed into law House File 2279, the Hearing Protection Act.

The measure, which passed the House with a 74-24 vote and the Senate by a vote of 46-4, makes Iowa the 42nd state to allow for the sale, use and possession of firearm sound suppressors and the 39th to allow for the use of suppressors while hunting. The law took effect immediately.

Suppressors foster a safer and more enjoyable shooting and hunting experience and will help ensure the propagation of Iowa’s rich hunting heritage. NRA-ILA would like to thank Rep. Matt Windschitl (the measure’s author), Rep. Terry Baxter and Gov. Branstad for signing this bill, which benefits gun owners and sportsmen across the Hawkeye State. In addition, this effort would not have been possible without the activism of the NRA membership in Iowa, the Iowa Firearms Coalition and the American Suppressor Association.
