Jerusalem Mayor Urges Citizens To Carry A Gun

posted on October 9, 2015

TheBlaze reports that on Thursday, the mayor of Jerusalem said it was “imperative” that Israelis with permits carry a weapon … as he does.

In an interview with Israel’s Army Radio, Mayor Nir Barkat said, “I think it’s important that gun carriers who are skilled and have experience carry their weapons with them, especially given the (current) tension.”

Barkat is reacting to the surge in stabbing, shooting and rock-throwing attacks over the past month. There were four such attacks on Wednesday alone; in all of the incidents, all those attacks were stopped either by police, soldiers or citizens. “Many terror attacks in Jerusalem have been prevented or neutralized due to the quick actions of responsible bystanders,” his office said.

Barkat, who is a licensed and trained gun owner, knows whereof he speaks: In February, he personally tackled a knife-wielding Palestinian who had just stabbed a Jewish pedestrian.
