Kentucky—Anti-Gun Measure Targets Preemption Laws

posted on November 7, 2016

Last week, state Sen. Reginald Thomas pre-filed legislation that would allow urban-county governments and consolidated local governments to regulate firearms and ammunition.

BR 172 would open the door to more regulations on law-abiding citizens by creating a confusing patchwork of ordinances and laws, making compliance very difficult and nearly impossible for law abiding citizens. This can easily create a situation where gun owners and sportsmen have difficulty even knowing about certain laws and accidentally becoming ensnared, simply because they have crossed from one municipality to another.

BR 172 will be assigned to committee when the legislature convenes in January. We’ll keep you posted.
