Lancaster Dumps Gun Sales Ban In Emergencies

posted on April 30, 2015

The Lancaster, Pa., City Council has voted unanimously to remove a city ordinance that allowed the city’s mayor to stop gun sales during an emergency.

The vote stemmed from a lawsuit filed against the city by the National Rifle Association in response to the city not conforming to the state’s Uniform Firearms Act. Mayor Rick Gray said in the meeting he was not even aware the statute existed, and that it did, indeed, violate the state’s pre-emption law.

“We’re pleased that Lancaster recognizes the illegality of portions of their emergency ordinance and that they are taking steps to conform with the law,” Jonathan Goldstein, the NRA’s attorney, told the Lancaster News.
