There is plenty of heartache to go around in Chicago, and under the leadership of Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, it has become “the country’s murder capital in absolute terms,” according to the Washington Post

It may not be much of a surprise, then, that two Chicago mothers are suing over the deaths of their children. But they’ve peculiarly chosen to sue three suburban Chicago gun stores with no known connection to the tragic deaths of their children—both of which occurred at least eight years ago.

More disheartening still is the continuing head-in-the-sand view of McCarthy. Despite a truly terrible record for gun-crime prosecution, he blathers on: “More guns, more shootings.” For the rest of the country, this isn’t true, and hasn’t been for decades. We get that it’s anti-gun politics and business as usual for McCarthy. But knowing what we know, it’s also something else: A lie.
