Missouri House Urges Congress To Reject Obama Anti-Gun Executive Actions

posted on February 16, 2016

In a party-line vote, the Missouri House of Representatives passed a resolution last week urging the U.S. Congress to “reject and revoke” President Obama’s recent anti-gun executive orders because they constitute “executive overreach” that “will unquestionably infringe upon American citizens’ constitutionally protected right to firearm ownership.”

Republican state Rep. Jered Taylor, author of HCR 63, said, “We need to send a message to Congress and to the president ... that as Missourians we will fight for the Second Amendment.” Even Missouri Democrats who support Obama’s anti-gun orders gave them a lukewarm response, with Rep. Stacey Newman of St. Louis telling the News Leader, “What these executive actions do [is] very little.”

“If the president wants to exert kingship and ... control those outside the executive branch by this edict that he’s trying to force down our throats, we need to take second thought,” said Republican Rep. Mike Moon during floor debate.
