The Barack Obama administration continues to drive a gun production windfall. While slightly lower than 2013, recently released 2014 manufacturing numbers showed 9,050,626 guns produced—the second highest on record this century.
More than 45 million guns have been produced commercially in the United States during the first six years of the Obama administration. That’s markedly higher than the 25 million guns made during the eight years of the Bush administration. What’s more, it’s a larger number than the 33 million produced during the Clinton administration—which included sales during the federal assault weapons ban.
The 2014 totals include roughly 3.6 million pistols, 750,000 revolvers, 3.4 million rifles, nearly a million shotguns and some 350,000 “miscellaneous firearms.” Smith & Wesson was the top pistol maker with 897,633, while Sturm, Ruger & Co. topped revolver manufacturers at 277,923. Remington topped the list in rifle manufacturing with 929,475.
