Nebraska Gun Permit Fees to Stay Same

Residents of the Cornhusker state won’t have to worry about paying more for their right to carry a firearm this year.

Despite arguments that an increase would help counties cover the rising cost of processing permit applications, legislators voted 27-17 to keep the fee at $5, thus relieving law-abiding gun owners of any additional financial burden for exercising their Second Amendment-protected right.

That’s good news for Nebraskans, who have been applying for more permits in recent months.

There were two primary arguments against the proposal to raise the fee to $25. One was that a 400 percent increase was too much at once, and one was that the proposed increase would take the fee higher than the actual cost to process an application.
