New Mexico Store Clerk Shoots Robber, Protects Patrons

posted on September 21, 2017

On Monday, an Albuquerque Circle K clerk said a man walked into the store like “a normal person” … but with a mask on. That’s when the would-be robber told customers to get down, pointed a gun at the employee behind the counter, and told her to hand over all the cash. That’s when she countered with her own plan.

The clerk grabbed her firearm and shot the suspect in the torso. The robber, later identified as 23-year-old Ferron Mendez, stumbled out of the store and collapsed nearby. He was taken to a local hospital and is still listed in critical condition.

KOAT-TV is also reporting that police believe Mendez may have been involved in another convenience store robbery earlier the same day. In the meantime, the clerk’s name is being withheld to ensure her safety.
