Oh, Brother: George Clooney Hosts Lavish Fundraisers To “Get Money Out Of Politics”

posted on April 19, 2016

Actor George Clooney has decided to protest the amount of money that politicians need in order to run for office by—wait for it—hosting political fundraisers.

Clooney, who argued that there is an “obscene amount of money” in politics, hosted two fundraisers this past weekend with his wife, Amal, that reportedly raised $15 million in support of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. His support for Clinton stems for her support of a repeal of Citizens United, a move he believes would eliminate the need for “ridiculous” amounts of money required to run for office (but would actually hamper the ability of groups like NRA to communicate with the public about important issues).

Speaking of “ridiculous” amounts of money, the top ticket price at Clooney’s fundraisers was reportedly $353,000 per seat. However, this price tag came with the privilege of sharing a table with Clinton—something that a lot of us wouldn’t do for free.
