Only 2 Percent Think Guns Are Most Pressing Concern

posted on January 5, 2016

President Barack Obama seems increasingly determined to use gun control to cement his legacy. In his upcoming “Guns In America” town hall with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, he will again attempt to bring the issue back to the forefront. Unfortunately for President Obama, Gallup polling information for 2015 suggests it might not work as well as he hopes.

By averaging the results of monthly telephone surveys, Gallup determined that guns/gun control was not the chief concern of Americans last year. Not only did it not grab the top spot, it wasn’t even in the top five. Or 10. Or 15. (It ranked 19th out of 23.)

Indeed, among the roughly 12,000 adults asked last year about the most important problem facing this country today, the most common response was … the government. Perhaps President Obama should leave law-abiding gun owners alone in favor of simply taking a long, hard look in the mirror.
