California voters’ passage of anti-gun Proposition 63 last week has had exactly the expected response—a run on ammunition in the state.

The new law will severely restrict ammo purchases by law-abiding gun owners in the state, while having no effect on criminals, who couldn’t care less about any kind of background check. Reports out of Sacramento indicate that people waited in line for an hour just to get into the Crossroads of the West Gun Show at Cal Expo to buy ammunition.

"I don't know that it's going to make any difference in terms of criminals having access to ammunition and firearms; they have their regular sources," Bob Templeton, owner of the Crossroads of the West Gun Shows, told Fox40. “It seems to be an attempt to make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to exercise their right to own and use firearms lawfully.”

Prop 63 also bans ownership of ammunition magazines holding more than 10 rounds—another law that will certainly be ignored by criminals.
