Just how many guns do Pennsylvania residents attempt to purchase each hour, 24 hours a day, on average? 10? 20? Maybe even as high as 50?

According to a report at Pennlive.com, based on figures from the state police’s Bureau of Records and Identification, 213,054 state background checks were conducted for individuals seeking to buy a firearm in the first three months of the year—approximately 97 guns every hour, on average. That’s up from a total of 180,938 during the same period last year.

Also according to the Pennlive.com report, an additional 96,417 background checks were done for those seeking concealed-carry permits, up from 64,640 in the first quarter of 2015. And 1,873 background checks were performed on individuals who sought to have returned guns that were held as police evidence.
