Hillary Clinton hasn’t been formally selected as the Democratic presidential nominee yet, but she’s already stirring up controversy. The Philadelphia police union took exception to her scheduled list of Democratic National Convention speakers, which includes relatives of victims of police shootings—but not relatives of slain police officers.
It is “sad that to win an election, Mrs. Clinton must pander to the interests of people who do not know all the facts, while the men and women they seek to destroy are outside protecting the political institutions of this country,” read a statement issued by John McNesby, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5.
The Democratic Convention, which takes place next week in Philadelphia, has former President Bill Clinton scheduled to meet with relatives of black men killed by police. The FOP statement summed it up succinctly: “Mrs. Clinton, you should be ashamed of yourself, if that is possible.”
