President-Elect Trump Doubles Down On 2A Support

posted on November 16, 2016

During his election campaign, Donald Trump vowed to protect the Second Amendment. He pledged at the time to appoint U.S. Supreme Court justices who were constitutionally sound and would bring conservative values to the High Court.

Now, as president-elect, Trump is reiterating and expounding upon his earlier vision. In a new statement posted Friday, Trump prefaced his positions by saying that the Second Amendment provides for a fundamental right that belongs to all law-abiding Americans, and that its purpose is to guarantee our right to defend ourselves and our families.

He then went on to call for instituting national Right-to-Carry (“the right of self-defense doesn’t stop at the end of your driveway”), eliminating gun and magazine bans (“a total failure”), ending gun-free zones on military bases and recruiting centers (“ridiculous”), and fixing the background check system (“what we don’t need to do is expand a broken system”).

That sounds pretty promising to us.
