Smoke Shop Employee Outguns Armed Robber

posted on May 9, 2015

A DeKalb County, Ga., smoke shop employee turned the tables on two would-be robbers Thursday afternoon. Police say that around 1 p.m. two men entered the Paradise Island Smoke Shop near Lithonia, where one of them asked the lone employee to see an item on a wall shelf behind the counter. When the employee turned to retrieve it, the other man put a shotgun to the back of his head.

The employee then slowly turned around and grabbed the gun barrel, and during the ensuing struggle, pulled out his own firearm. He fired several shots, killing the armed suspect. The second suspect fled, but was arrested a few hours later. According to police, descriptions of the suspects and getaway car match those from an attempted robbery at a nearby check-cashing establishment, where two suspects were foiled by a bulletproof glass barrier.
