South Carolina Student Group Pushing Campus Carry

posted on February 16, 2017

In South Carolina, where current law prohibits anyone from possessing a firearm on university or college premises, there’s one group pushing to get that changed. Coastal Carolina Conservatives (CCC) is a student activism coalition that’s fighting for campus carry to become legal in the Palmetto State.

Bill H 3248, supporting the right of law-abiding citizens with concealed-carry licenses to bring their gun onto campus, was submitted to the South Carolina General Assembly in January and is currently under review. To garner support for the bill, CCC members have been creating petitions, hosting educational events on campus and utilizing social media.

"It's a safe thing, it's nothing different than you walking and going to the grocery store every day—there's a conceal weapons carry permit holder every day and you don't know it,” explains CCC Chairman Cody Fongemie. "Concealed-carry weapon holders are the most law-abiding citizens when it comes to gun ownership, and they go through all this training.”
