Tampa Columnist’s Dumb “Guns Everywhere” Op-Ed Reveals His Ignorance

posted on February 8, 2017

A Tampa, Fla., columnist unloaded 721 words of blather aimed at pro-gun Florida legislation on Tuesday, but you don’t need to read past the headline to know he has little to no understanding about criminals and violent crimes.

Tampa Bay Times columnist Brian Ruth’s op-ed was titled “Allowing guns everywhere won't make Floridians safer.” And it completely overlooks the fact that violent criminals are already “allowed” to have guns everywhere: They don’t follow the law. That’s why they’re called criminals!

Ruth showed his anti-gun stripes in slamming a measure that would hold private properties that ban legal carry of firearms liable if carry permit holders are harmed while disarmed. “Do you get the suspicion folks like [state Sen. Greg] Steube won't rest until the state symbol is a body bag?” Ruth asks in his arm-waving, over-the-top manner.

Earth to Mr. Ruth: Violent criminals already can, and already do, carry firearms in your sacred so-called “gun-free” zones. Why shouldn’t law-abiding gun owners have the same opportunity?
