Teenager With Shotgun Stops Home Invader

posted on August 6, 2016

It’s all too common a scene: A burglar locates a house, breaks in and begins looking for items to steal. Something not as common: While rifling through the property, the robber comes across a 15-year-old with a shotgun.

Myrtle Point, Ore., police received a report of an attempted burglary early Wednesday morning. Responding officers said the burglar had entered the residence while the teenager was alone in the house. In fear for his life, the teen found a shotgun inside the home and then shot the burglar in the leg.

The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Kenneth John Edwards III, who was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Coos County district attorney said that the injury was not life-threatening, while also concluding that the shooting was a justifiable use of force. Charges against Edwards will come from the Coos County Grand Jury.
