Tens Of Thousands Of Dollars Raised For Woman Fired For Shooting Robbery Suspect

posted on September 28, 2017

We recently covered the case of Jennifer Wertz, a convenience store clerk in Albuquerque, N.M., who was suspended and later officially fired for shooting a man who allegedly tried to rob her at gunpoint. Now there’s some good news to report: A GoFundMe page set up for Wertz by her mother has raised over $60,000 to support her while she is between jobs.

“My daughter has 3 kids to care for and needs help now,” the GoFundMe summary reads. “The kids are 8, 6, and 2, and with no income, she isn’t sure what to do. She won’t ask for help herself, so I’m doing this for her.” Now thanks to the kindness of over a thousand donors, the working mom won’t need to worry about money for a while.

Wertz told KRQE-TV that the donations would allow her to recover from the trauma of the shooting and to be covered for legal fees if she happens to end up in court.
