Shaelynn Burton, 25, was asleep in her home when she heard someone banging on the front door at about 4 a.m. When Burton answered the door, a woman forced her way into the residence. The women got into a physical altercation and Burton was able to pin the woman against a wall. Burton told the woman that she had children in the home and that she needed to leave. The woman reportedly threatened the lives of Burton and her children, so Burton ran upstairs to grab her gun. She held the woman at gunpoint until police arrived. According to various news reports, 22-year-old Derrick Mosley attempted to rob an Oregon gun shop armed with a baseball bat. He walked into Discount Gun Sales in Beaverton, Ore., with a baseball bat, reportedly smashing a display case and attempting to steal a firearm. The manager of the shop drew his own firearm, training his gun on Mosely, and ordered him to drop the bat, unloaded gun he was attempting to steal and 9-inch knife he was carrying. The gun shop manager held Mosley at gunpoint until the sheriff's department arrived. He was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree theft, unlawful possession of a firearm and second-degree criminal mischief. (TheBlaze.com, Beaverton, OR, 7/26/13)
