Police found 32-year-old Nathan Ford in the street outside of his own home. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds after defending himself from an armed intruder. The intruder's wounds proved fatal. His body was found inside the home. It was last reported that Ford is expected to recover from his injuries. (MyFox 8, Greensboro, N.C., 11/20/13)

A 54-year-old woman and her 21-year-old son were home around 10 p.m. when two men tried to force their way into the home. The son retrieved a firearm and fired several shots, striking one assailant in the back and the other in the arm. They fled the scene, but were later found by police. They were taken to a hospital for treatment before being arrested and booked on warrants. The residents of the home were not injured during the attempted break-in. November 1975: A Missouri state trooper had been shot three times by two armed robbery suspects when armed citizen Robert Riley of Tiptonville, Tenn., rushed to his aid. Riley fired a small caliber pistol at the assailants until they surrendered. The law officer was then rushed to a hospital. (The Memphis Press-Scimitar, Memphis, Tenn.)
