The political arm of the Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS) has endorsed Hillary Clinton for her “compelling record of support for animal protection” and launched a new ad Wednesday that attacks Donald Trump’s sons for hunting, The Hill reports.
The lobbying group, known as the Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF), has never endorsed a presidential candidate before backing Clinton. According to HSLF senior political director Joe Maxwell, Clinton’s voting record in the U.S. Senate matched the anti-hunting group’s priorities perfectly, with the group giving her a perfect score of 100 in the 108th and 109th Congresses.
Many Americans contribute to HSUS in the mistaken belief that they’re supporting their local animal shelter, when in reality, HSUS—which merged with the Fund for Animals in 2005—is the world’s largest, most powerful and effective lobbying group seeking to ban all hunting, with an annual budget of nearly $200 million.
