California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom is engaging in a high-profile anti-gun campaign designed to boost his profile in preparation for a gubernatorial run. Now he is raising concerns that he plans to act as Michael Bloomberg’s emissary on the West Coast. Newsom tweeted his thanks to Bloomberg for meeting him last month and is likely interested in drawing on the former New York City mayor’s vast coffers while he advances his agenda.
And while Bloomberg may be the most prominent anti-gun billionaire tied to Newsom, he’s not the only one. Napster founder Sean Parker, who gave over $1 million to promote expanded background check legislation in Washington state, invited Newsom to his wedding and has already contributed to his 2018 run for governor. California gun owners—already an embattled population—will need to mobilize if they want to defeat the ambitions of this well-funded, gun-hating candidate.
HuffPo Formerly Supported NRA’s View Of Terrorist Watch-List
An illuminating blog post by AWR Hawkins points out that while the anti-gun left is busy slamming the NRA for its opposition to legislation prohibiting individuals on an FBI terrorist watch-list from owning guns, the Huffington Post has previously run material highlighting how innocent people end up on such a list. These are the same reasons that NRA doesn’t want Americans being deprived of their Second Amendment rights without due process.
Of course, the difference here is in context: The original HuffPo article wasn’t addressing gun ownership. When it comes to this topic, mainstream media outlets aren’t so much ignorant as they are cynical. They understand the problems with watch-lists perfectly well, right up to the point where they proclaim, “NRA is arming the terrorists!” Dumbing down this issue for political points does a huge disservice to American news consumers.
Cincinnati Gas Station Owner Shoots Armed Robber
An armed man allegedly tried to hold up a convenience store in the East Price Hill neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio, but he found that the owner was too well prepared. WCPO reports that the owner fired his own gun at the suspect and grazed his stomach. The would-be robber was taken into custody nearby, and police recovered a firearm from him.
Police have not released the names of the individuals while they investigate surveillance footage of the incident. They did confirm that the store owner was unharmed.
