Houston Smoke Shop Clerk Shoots Robber

When three men wearing masks and carrying guns tried to rob the Happy Daze Smoke Shop in northwest Harris County, Texas, around 10 p.m. Monday night, a clerk at the store shot one of the masked men.

The three attempted robbers then ran outside. Two sped off in a dark-colored SUV, while the one who was shot collapsed outside the store. Several customers were in the store during the incident, but there were no reported injuries to anyone except the alleged attempted armed robber, who died at the scene.

Harris County sheriff's deputies interviewed the smoke shop clerk for most of the night, but he was not arrested or charged. Detectives plan to use surveillance video from the store to try to identify the two escaped would-be robbers, who remain at large.
