New Orleans Murder Rate Jumps

Fourth of July weekend was a violent one in many cities across the country, from Chicago to Cleveland. Another city that is now noticeably feeling the effects of a sudden jump in crime is New Orleans. After several consecutive years of minor—but steady—drops in violent crime, murder is on the rise again.

With police nationwide under public scrutiny, the criminal element is becoming bolder. According to Tamara Jackson, executive director of Silence Is Violence—a group that supports victims’ families—since criminals “aren’t respecting law enforcement, you know the average citizen stands a poor chance.” Living in a state that respects the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, more and more New Orleans residents might soon find it necessary to arm themselves in defense against an increasingly confident criminal element.
