Dale Harris Jr. had such great success at work the night before that he decided to return to the scene of the crime—literally. Last Thursday night, Harris had broken into a backyard shed in Thibodaux, La., and stolen nearly $1,000 worth of fishing equipment.
Flushed with success and looking to capitalize further, Harris returned the next night to finish the job. Only this time, the homeowner was prepared. Live surveillance alerted the homeowner to the intruder—who then confronted Harris and shot him in the leg. The homeowner then held Harris at the house until police could arrive.
Harris was charged with burglary and was booked into the Lafourche Parish jail. There, he is likely contemplating the folly of pushing his luck a bit too far.
Marcus Luttrell Is Freedom’s Safest Place
Marcus Luttrell is a true American hero. A veteran U.S. Navy SEAL whose story was portrayed in the movie “Lone Survivor,” Luttrell is also the subject of the new Freedom’s Safest Place television commercial.
“I will say what I think, worship according to my beliefs and raise my children how I see fit. And I will defend it all with the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States,” Luttrell says in the 60-second spot. “I cower to no one, because I am the National Rifle Association, and I am Freedom’s Safest Place.”

O’Malley Doubles Down On Gun Control
With Hillary Clinton still floundering in an email server scandal, former Maryland Governor and Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley seems to be trying to prove he’s anti-gun enough to be the party’s nominee.
O’Malley’s “gun violence prevention” plan reads more like a gun-ban playbook than anything having to do with violent criminals. It includes, among other things, the Holy Grail of gun-banners—instituting a federal registry that could act as the first step toward confiscation. Other items on O’Malley’s wish list include so-called “universal” background checks, banning possession of ownership of handguns by anyone under 21, and repealing the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which shields gun manufacturers from lawsuits based on criminal use of their legal products.
If there was ever any hint that O’Malley might not be an ardent gun-ban advocate (and there really wasn’t), he’s ruled that out by his litany of proposals that affect only law-abiding gun owners, not violent criminals.
Recruiters To Receive Defensive Desk Partitions
In a disheartening story, the Marine Corps Times reported last week that its recruiters will remain unarmed at recruiting centers around the nation. According to Lt. Gen. Mark Brilakis, “All the services … said they don’t want to arm their folks.”
Despite the deaths of five service members in a July attack on two facilities in Chattanooga, Tenn., both firearms and bulletproof glass are among the defensive measures that have been rejected, the latter primarily based on cost (reportedly more than $100 million for recruiting centers nationwide). Training, remote-locking doors and ballistic protection in the form of moveable shields or desk partitions are under consideration.
More worrisome still, however, is another remark by Gen. Brilakis: “… recruiters showing up armed is not going to make either educators or parents comfortable.” Seriously? In other words, the aesthetics of a visible weapon—how it looks—will be allowed to trump actual defensive measures for our troops. Wow.
Miss America Contestant Says No To Gun Control
Miss South Carolina 2015 Daja Dial was asked the following loaded question during the Miss America 2016 beauty pageant: “Do you support a ban on military-style assault weapons?” The phrasing seemed designed to fish for a “yes” answer, but Dial didn’t comply.
“I don’t, but I think it’s because we need to increase education,” Dial responded. “If we teach people the proper way to use guns, then we will reduce the risk of having gun-related accidents. It starts with education.” Dial failed to win the contest despite having been identified as a fan favorite and frontrunner, leading some to question whether her pro-gun stance cost her the top place. Regardless, it looks like she picked up some new liberty-loving fans last night!
Salvadoran Gangsters Flexing Muscles In U.S.
Two major street gangs whose members hail from El Salvador—Mara Salvatrucha (or MS-13) and the 18th Street Gang—have their roots in the city of Los Angeles. Now the Los Angeles Daily News reports that both gangs are not only sending high-ranking members from El Salvador into the United States, but also reaching out to affiliated stateside gangs in order to consolidate their power structure.
An agent for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says that both gangs’ leaders “are trying to put pressure on members to get more violent and more active” on American soil. With California residents highly restricted in their right to bear arms, and law enforcement officers backed into less proactive stances, an increase in gang activity is the last thing that L.A. needs right now.
Confirmed: Spike Lee Movie “Chiraq” Will Push Gun Control
Spike Lee’s upcoming feature film “Chiraq”—which is set in Chicago and focuses on the gang violence, shootings and murders that allegedly make that city more dangerous than wartime Iraq—will reportedly examine the debate on gun laws in the United States.
In discussing the film, the first movie to be fully funded by Amazon Studios, Lee said, “Guns are out of control here in America. There has to be some gun reform, and that is going to be a fight because you have to go up against the NRA ...”
As we’ve pointedout, however, Chicago has some of the toughest anti-gun laws in the nation (including, until recently, a ban on handguns). Furthermore, federal, state and local prosecutors refuse to enforce existing gun laws against the repeat offenders who’ve turned Chicago into a war zone. So what’s the point of more laws that will only disarm more victims?
