Rising Number Of Mexicans Want The Right To Carry

posted on October 22, 2016

In a surprising survey conducted across the country, nearly 60 percent of Mexicans said they should be allowed to carry a firearm in their car or at the office for self-defense.

Currently, the Mexican constitution allows citizens to possess a firearm at home, with the exception of certain weapons that are prohibited by law. But with a background of violent attacks and a soaring crime rate, nearly 70 percent of the country’s population believe that having the right to carry outside the home wouldn’t increase danger, but would reduce the threat of armed robbers.

And while close to six out of 10 Mexican citizens think an end to the gun ban would be helpful, nearly the same number of people questioned said they have never owned a gun. However, in the same poll, more than 40 percent said they would buy a gun if allowed to carry it outside the house.
