On Monday, the New Jersey Assembly voted to block new guidelines from Gov. Chris Christie that would have made getting a firearm permit a little less onerous for those in danger.

“These regulations would vastly loosen New Jersey’s appropriately strict gun laws, and allow more people to become eligible for firearm carry permits in our state,” whined Democrat Senate Majority Leader Weinberg.

As if that would be bad. Weinberg and others must not have noticed the rousing success of Right-to-Carry throughout the rest of the nation. Instead, they prefer to keep citizens disarmed and endangered—as they did Carol Bowne when she was murdered in her driveway while waiting for her gun permit application to be approved (action on it was already weeks overdue).

When President Donald Trump (R) signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) into law on July 4, 2025, he scheduled the end of the burdensome $200 excise tax imposed on suppressors, short-barreled firearms and “any other weapons” as defined by the National Firearms Act (NFA). That end came on January 1.
