In Debate, Hillary Backs Down On Vermont Gun Lie, Doubles Down On Guns

posted on April 16, 2016

In the New York Democratic debate Thursday night, Hillary Clinton backpedaled on her claim that Vermont firearms are responsible for New York crime. But she doubled down on blaming the Second Amendment for violence, repeating her claim that “most of the guns that end up committing crimes in New York come from out of state.”

Aside from the fact that guns don’t “commit crimes,” Clinton’s claims have several problems. Most importantly, as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has warned—and CNN finally admitted—“not all firearms used in crime are traced, not all firearms traced are used in crime,” and those that are traced “should not be considered representative of the larger universe of all firearms used by criminals.”

So Clinton’s claim means ... well, not much of anything, except that she wants to use New York crime as an excuse to attack your Second Amendment rights everywhere else.
