Gang Violence In Ireland On The Rise

Deadly violence in Dublin has residents living in fear. Seven murders in 11 weeks—the latest coming this week when two men were fatally shot in separate incidents—are believed to be linked to a dispute between the Hutch and Kinahan gangs.

As the gang wars escalate, residents of Ireland’s capital worry about their safety. “People are scared for their lives,” said one woman. “These killings are getting closer and things are getting worse and worse.”

This violence comes following a series of gun-control laws enacted in 2015. Irish police pushed for a ban on nearly all handguns currently licensed to sports and hunting enthusiasts, as well as a ban on shotguns holding more than three rounds and all semi-automatic centerfire rifles. “Such firearms should not be licensable as they pose an unacceptable danger to society,” they warned.

Seems the real danger now is to those who are unarmed and unprotected.
