This week the Michigan House Local Government Committee will consider and vote on House Bill 4795, as substituted. The measure, sponsored by Chairman Lee Chatfield, is important legislation aimed at protecting law-abiding gun owners from unlawful constraints on their right to keep and bear arms imposed by insubordinate local units of government.
In 1990, the Michigan Legislature passed Public Act 319, a bill that prohibits a local unit of government from enacting or enforcing any ordinance or regulation pertaining to, or regulating in any other manner, the ownership, registration, purchase, sale, transfer, transportation or possession of pistols or other firearms. While Public Act 319 of 1990 was largely successful in accomplishing the intended goal, certain obstinate local units of government and local politicians in Michigan continue to egregiously violate Michigan law through the enactment of unlawful regulations and ordinances intended to target, intimidate, and sometimes unlawfully detain law-abiding gun owners.

NRA Takes On President Over Social Security Gun Ban
As President Barack Obama pushes a plan to curtail Second Amendment rights for some who are on Social Security, the National Rifle Association continues to alert Americans about the threat to freedom.
“The president’s fixation on Social Security recipients is just another distraction from his failure to address the underlying issues of violent crime and suicide,” said Jennifer Baker, director of NRA-ILA Public Affairs. “As this president makes it harder for law-abiding citizens to exercise their individual right to self-defense, his own administration is releasing criminals convicted of gun crimes back onto the street and prosecuting 40 percent less firearm crimes than the previous administration.
“President Obama’s focus on denying disability beneficiaries their fundamental Second Amendment rights while giving criminals a free pass is embarrassing and shameful.”
11-Year-Old Alabama Boy Shoots Home Intruder
An Alabama 11-year-old used a family firearm to put a stop to a home invasion and robbery while he was home alone on Wednesday morning.
According to local media reports, Chris Gaither told police that a man broke into his home and walked upstairs. He repeatedly threatened and berated the youngster, even telling him he was going to kill him.
The robber made it to the front door with stolen goods in hand, but the boy opened fire with a 9 mm handgun, hitting the intruder once in the leg. “I shot through the hamper he was carrying,” Gaither told media outlet WVTM. “It was a full metal jacket bullet. It went straight through the back of his leg. He started crying like a little baby.”
