More Law Enforcement Officers Oppose Nevada Ballot Initiative

posted on August 10, 2016

Those who say they are supporting the Michael Bloomberg-funded background check ballot initiative in Nevada because it will save lives are getting it all wrong, according to a law enforcement official in the state.

Clark County Undersheriff Kevin McMahill recently told Las Vegas radio station KNPR that the Question 1 gun-control ballot initiative would not reduce the number of gun deaths. “Our shootings aren’t occurring because you have great citizens who are involved in these types of things,” McMahill said. “You have people that are out there committing a number of crimes and using, more often than not, stolen firearms, firearms with obliterated serial numbers, firearms that they trade in the drug world. These are not legal firearms that are used in the murder of 101 people.”

McMahill is not alone in his assessment, as a majority of county sheriffs in Nevada are now opposing the initiative. For more information on how Question 1 will cost Nevadans time, money and freedom, go to votenoquestion1.com.
