For the 15th straight month, a new monthly record has been set for FBI firearm background checks. Nearly 2.2 million checks were processed by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in July, far surpassing the 1.6 million background checks processed last July, and putting the nation on track to smash last year’s record-setting total.
With an adamantly anti-gun sitting president and an equally anti-gun candidate on the ballot, it’s no wonder Americans are choosing to exercise their right to keep and bear arms. Just this past weekend, in an interview with Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday,” Hillary Clinton again expressed her belief that the Second Amendment be “subject to reasonable regulations.” Of course, she also threw in her obligatory “I’m not looking to repeal the Second Amendment” campaign-speak. But with her history of lies, it’s no wonder Americans are planning for the worst should she be elected.
College Administrator Says “Kill The NRA”
In yet another example of the open-mindedness of college administrators charged with fostering the education of American college students, an administrator at the University of Cincinnati has suggested that the way to improve our country is by killing NRA members.
Melinda Rhodes-DiSalvo, the interim director of the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning at the university, and obviously no role model for students, posted on her personal Facebook account: “Want to help this country? Kill the NRA.”
Rhodes-DiSalvo’s nasty post came less than two months after James Pearce, an adjunct professor at Southern State Community College (SSCC) in Ohio, wrote on his Facebook page: “Look, there’s only one solution. A bunch of us anti-gun types are going to have to arm ourselves, storm the NRA Headquarters in Fairfax, Va., and make sure there are no survivors. This action might also require coordinated hits at remote sites, like Washington lobbyists. Then and only then will we see some legislative action on assault weapons. Have a nice day.”
Pastor Who Used Church Funds To Win AR-15 Raffle Transferred Rifle Illegally
Last week, we reported on an Oregon pastor who used $3,000 in church funds to buy half the raffle tickets for an AR-15. He won the rifle and then declared his intention to destroy it. Now, he’s being investigated for having admitted to transferring the rifle in violation of Oregon state law.
According to OregonLive.com, pastor Jerry Lucas gave the gun to a parishioner for safekeeping without conducting a background check. Spurred by Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety, Oregon instituted a new law in 2015 that requires any transfer of a firearm to go through a background check; the law bars even temporary lending of a firearm without one.
Oregon State Police have not yet declared if they will charge Lucas, but if convicted, he faces a maximum fine of $6,250 and up to a year in jail. While NRA opposed the law precisely because it would turn lawful gun owners into criminals, we can’t help but notice the irony when its backers find themselves snared in webs of their own making.
Nassau Bay Police Force Receives Crucial NRA Foundation Grant
You won’t see this in the so-called “mainstream” media, but the Nassau Bay (Texas) Police Department is receiving a generous donation to arm its entire force with uniform handguns, courtesy of a longtime champion of law enforcement—the National Rifle Association.
Police Chief Kenneth Campbell says The NRA Foundation grant could be a lifesaver. “The uniformity in firearms will ensure that all officers are carrying the same type and caliber handgun and ammunition, (which) could prove lifesaving during a gun battle due to officers’ pistol magazines being interchangeable,” Campbell said. Before the officers applied for The NRA Foundation grant, all 12 officers were responsible for securing their own guns—which did nothing to ensure weapon uniformity.
Nassau Bay Mayor Mark Denman says it’s more crucial than ever for officers to be prepared. “Should a situation occur … where one officer had to use another officer’s weapon, there's no learning curve to tackle when split seconds count in saving lives,” he said. “It means a better prepared, better organized police force.”
Germans own nearly 5.5 million firearms legally, according to the German Firearms Register, but research by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper estimated that up to 20 million illegal guns are also in circulation, London’s Daily Mail reports.
Those illegally held firearms are increasingly being used to victimize lawful German citizens, such as the nine people murdered and 36 injured in Munich last month by a man armed with a pistol he’d obtained illegally through the “dark Web.”
One result: Applications for permits to carry non-lethal weapons in Germany—blank pistols, tear gas pistols, flare guns, etc.—are hitting record highs, up nearly 50 percent since last year, RT.com reports.
N.C. Burglars Attempt Gun Store Robbery—With Predictable Results
If you’re going to attempt a robbery in broad daylight, a gun store seems an inauspicious choice. But on Tuesday, two Wake County, N.C., robbers were brazen enough to give it a try.
An employee and a customer were inside Jim’s Gun Shop at around 4:30 p.m. when they looked out a window and saw two masked men approaching the front door. The employee raced to the entrance and attempted to shut and lock it, but the suspects got there first and pushed on the door until they broke in. Noticing the two intruders were armed, the employee retrieved his own gun and fired once at the suspects, scaring them out of the store.
The employee told authorities he was unsure whether he had hit either suspect, but both were able to make it to a green car parked nearby and fled before police arrived. Neither the employee nor the customer were hurt, but the suspects remain at large and authorities consider them armed and dangerous.
