In the aftermath of a shootout on Sunday night that left one dead and three more injured, the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) has concluded that the best response is to simply ban guns for all of the law-abiding residents.
HABD operates 14 public housing sites with 5,000 units, and they also oversee Section 8 housing. But now residents living in these areas—some of the most at-risk areas of the city—will be left disarmed and defenseless, while criminals, who don’t follow laws, will simply keep their guns.
Housing authorities that attempt to deny residents their fundamental Second Amendment rights—no matter how unconstitutional—are nothing new. It wasn’t too long ago that Josephine Byrd took on the Wilmington Housing Authority and saw the Delaware Supreme Court unanimously rule in her favor. Learn more about her story here.
HABD would do well to pay close attention to Byrd’s story. Taking away the constitutional liberties of the law-abiding is not the solution to violent crime.
Katie Couric Sued For $12 Million Over Deceptive Anti-Gun “Documentary”
The Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) and two Second Amendment activists filed a lawsuit Tuesday in federal court against Katie Couric and the producers of “Under the Gun,” charging that the producers of the so-called documentary intentionally manipulated footage of them to make them look clueless and uncaring when asked about firearm purchase background checks, BearingArms.com reports.
In the film, after Couric asked pro-gun activists, “If there are no background checks for gun purchasers, how do you prevent felons or terrorists from purchasing a gun?,” those activists are shown sitting silent, seemingly flummoxed, for eight seconds—when in reality, those activists immediately replied and debated with Couric for nearly six minutes, as their audio tape of the exchange proved.
Attorneys for the plaintiffs say in their complaint that the filmmakers intentionally, maliciously manufactured the exchange by splicing in footage of the activists sitting silent after producers of the film had asked them to do so to calibrate their recording equipment. The suit seeks compensatory damages of $12 million, punitive damages of $350,000 per plaintiff and an injunction barring further distribution of the film.
Maine Gun Owners Rallying Against Question 3
Maine gun owners are coming together and speaking out strongly against Question 3, the anti-gun so-called “universal” background checks ballot initiative being heavily funded by billionaire former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
In a Tuesday op-ed in the Bangor Daily News, retired game warden Mike Marshall wrote that the proposal would do nothing about crime, but only harm law-abiding gun owners. “The proposed universal background check law—Question 3 on the November ballot—is unnecessary and would be largely unenforceable as written,” Marshall wrote. “If this proposal became law, the only way the government could consistently convict a person in court of an illegal transfer of ownership without a background check would be if all firearms in the state were previously registered to their particular owners … So a universal firearm registration law in Maine would be next.”
He added: “We know there are powerful politicians who very much want us to travel down this slippery slope. Let’s not let it happen in Maine.”

Gun Control Tops Google Issue Searches On Tuesday
While many in the so-called “mainstream” media would have you believe that few care about the issue of gun control leading up to the November elections, recent results from Google seem to point to just the opposite conclusion.
According to Google, the top-searched political issue on Tuesday was Gun Control, followed by Immigration, Abortion, Economy and Racism, in that order.
And don’t believe that it is only those interested in more gun control that are using the search engine, as more and more information is made available about Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s horrendous stance on the issue. Let’s keep the conversation about gun control—and Clinton’s disdain for gun owners and the Second Amendment—on the front burner right up to Election Day. Then we’ll let the voters decide.
Another Life Saved In A Wal-Mart Parking Lot
A Sunrise, Fla., Wal-Mart employee used his legally carried firearm to stop an armed robber who confronted him while he was in his car getting ready to go into the store for work early Wednesday morning.
According to local media reports, the employee was approached by a man who showed him his gun and said: “You know what this is, right? Give me everything.”
What the armed robber likely wasn’t expecting to get was a victim ready to fight back. The man pulled his own firearm and began shooting, killing the armed robber.
“There’s just too much going on,” a nearby resident told WSVN. “It’s wonderful that he could protect himself, otherwise he’d be the one behind the tarp.”
