On Monday, The Tennessean reported that the White House has invited 22-year-old Vanderbilt student Allison Plattsmier and seven other college students to talk about “gun-reform policy."
Plattsmier believes that young Americans’ opinions on guns should be heard, saying “I don’t think assault rifles should be on the market. I think we should limit the number of magazines. I think we should increase background checks at gun shows. I think there are many steps we could take that we are not.” Her efforts opposing campus carry caught the attention of the White House.
Though she is a prolific volunteer, conducting jeans drives and collecting sports equipment didn’t teach her anything about “assault weapons,” magazine capacity or gun shows. Is she aware of recent research that shows the millennial generation is even less likely to support gun-control than older generations, with 63 percent of 18-34-year-olds stating that people should be allowed to own “assault weapons”?
Does Ms. Plattsmier want those students heard, too?
Massachusetts AG Faces Federal Lawsuit For Her Unilateral Gun Ban
Four Massachusetts firearms dealers and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) have filed suit in federal court against Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, seeking to block her unilateral rewrite of the state’s 1998 semi-auto firearm ban, a rewrite that the lawsuit argues is “unconstitutionally vague, invalid and unenforceable,” the Boston Globe reports.
As America’s 1st Freedomreported here in July, Healey issued an “enforcement notice” warning that “if a gun’s operating system is essentially the same as that of a banned weapon, or if the gun has components that are interchangeable with those of a banned weapon … it is illegal”—effective immediately.
As the suit points out, firearms dealers “cannot determine the meaning and scope of the Enforcement Notice and whether certain firearms fall within” the expanded ban, and since they could face criminal penalties for violations, the policy violates their due process rights. “She has absolutely no authority to take it upon herself to issue regulations … that redefine the statutory terms,” said NSSF’s Lawrence G. Keane.
Violent Crime Up Across The Country, With An 11% Rise In Murders
According to an FBI crime report, there was a rise in violent crime last year nationwide. Unsurprisingly, some of the largest increases were in cities with strict gun control laws, including Chicago; Washington, D.C.; and Baltimore.
While there were 1,197,704 violent crimes reported last year, The New York Times reports that murder rates increased dramatically in a quarter of the nation’s 100 largest cities. “The homicide increase in the nation’s large cities was real and nearly unprecedented,” the study’s author, University of Missouri-St. Louis criminology professor Richard Rosenfeld, told the Times.
With 488 homicides in 2015, Chicago recorded far more murders than New York City (352)—which has three times the population. Baltimore showed the largest increase in murders, but only the second-highest murder rate: That dubious honor went to St. Louis, which registered 59 homicides per 100,000 residents. About half the rise in homicides is attributed to seven cities, all with a poverty rate higher than the national average: Cleveland, Milwaukee, Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, Nashville, and Washington, D.C.
Gabby Giffords Kicks Off 14-State Gun-Control Tour Today In Orlando
“The vocal majority of Americans who support change that reduces gun violence need to stand up and speak out,” former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords said in a statement announcing she would be embarking on a pro-gun control tour of 14 battleground states with husband Mark Kelly.
While the two aren’t formally affiliated with Hillary Clinton’s campaign, the “Vocal Majority Tour” will feature rallies, roundtables, voter registration events and press conferences promoting Clinton’s gun-control agenda. And because, like Clinton, Giffords and Kelly would be remiss to let a tragedy go to waste, the tour kicked off today in Orlando—and featured survivors and victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting, along with a handful of anti-gun lawmakers.
“We’re going to do all we can to ensure 2016 is remembered as the tipping point; the year that Americans voted to prevent gun tragedies,” Giffords said. Noticeably absent was any mention of how anything Clinton has proposed would prevent, or even reduce, tragedies—or how there could be a “Vocal Majority” promoting gun control, when poll after poll shows that Americans support the Second Amendment in record numbers.

“The Second Amendment is on the ballot,” warns NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox. The importance of the upcoming presidential election cannot be overstated—if another Clinton takes up residence in the White House, our firearm freedoms will more than likely be taken away.
It’s vital that we each do our role in ensuring that we have a strong turnout of voters on election day. Contact your NRA-ILA Campaign Field Representative (CFR) to learn how you can help. Your area CFR will help to coordinate the recruitment of volunteers for registering voters, making phone calls, knocking on doors, generating letters to the editor, distributing candidate information, attending events and turning out the pro-gun vote on Election Day.

Texas Motorist Shoots Attempted Armed Robber
When an East Lubbock, Texas, man pulled into his driveway Friday night, a man pointed a handgun at him, told him to get out of the vehicle and demanded money, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journalreports.
While the motorist held the gunman’s attention, a woman who was a passenger in the vehicle retrieved a handgun and handed it to the driver, who fired it at the assailant, striking him in the leg and sending him fleeing.
Police later arrested Jamarcus Johnson, 22, nearby, and charged him with felony aggravated robbery and several misdemeanors.
