Homeowner Shoots Intruder In Upscale Texas Neighborhood

The sound of breaking glass at 4:30 a.m. never leads to anything good. And when a Tanglewood, Texas, homeowner heard that sound last Tuesday, his first instinct was his best: He grabbed his gun.

Mike Colgin—a retiree who never expected to be walking down the hallway to encounter a home invader—told Houston KTRK-13, “It’s really surreal. I come up to the corner, and I look through the glass in the grandfather clock. That's how I can make out who it was.” Colgin said the intruder, Julio Socoy-Velasquez, was already halfway through a broken window in the living room, so he acted immediately.

“I took two steps out, aimed, and boom! He went straight out the window,” Colgin said. The suspect bolted down the street, but didn’t make it far before he was arrested by police and taken to the hospital. Socoy-Velasquez has superficial wounds to his head and ear and is now in jail.
